Frequently Asked Questions about Scraping Paint Off Of Windows
How Long Should The Paint Dry Before Scraping It Off Of The Window?
Drying time varies by paint type, surface type and room environment- Hot, Cold, etc. Must Own Tools suggests waiting 24 hours before starting scraping, after painting the window trim.
Can I Use A Shop Vac Instead Of A Hand Held Vacuum Cleaner?
A shop vac, provided it has a long enough vacuum hose will work. On really tall windows requiring ladders-a shop vac will be difficult to use. In this instance a hand held vacuum is a better choice.
Do I Need To Use Both A Putty Knife And Paint Scraper?
What tools you use are personal decisions. For some projects a Putty Knife will be all that you need. We have found a paint scraper with a sharp razor blade usually works well for scraping paint.
Will Metal Blades Scratch My Windows?
We have found that Putty Knives, and Paint Scrapers with metal blades do not scratch or damage windows if used correctly. We highly recommend testing a small area before beginning the project.
Will The Paint Ruin My Handheld Vacumm?
We can’t promise the paint scraped off of the window won’t harm your vacuum. Must Own Tools recommends the following to minimize any damage.
1) Allow an appropriate amount of time for the paint to dry – at least 24 hours. Wet or semi-wet paint could stick to the filter or working parts of the hand-held vacuum.
2) Empty the Vacuum often to avoid trash build-up.
3) Clean the Vacuum filter according to the manufacturers directions. Cleaning the filter will prevent paint chip build up and minimize the filter from becoming clogged.
